BSEC holds meetings with stakeholders

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday held meetings with banks, merchant banks, brokerage houses, asset managers and fund managers and discussed the situation of the stock market which has remained sluggish in recent months.

A meeting with asset managers and fund managers was held on the initiative of the investment management division of the BSEC at the commission office in the capital Dhaka, said a press release.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the fund managers and asset management companies in the capital market, it said.

BSEC commissioner Mizanur Rahman presided over the meeting. BSEC executive director Mohammad Rezaul Karim, among others, was present.

The meeting discussed the development of mutual funds in the current market scenario and various aspects of investment in the capital market.

Mizanur assured all fund managers and asset management companies who present at the meeting of protecting investors’ interests and ensuring proper processes.

Rezaul urged the fund managers and asset management companies to take proactive measures to enhance the development of the sector.

The meeting also discussed matters related to strengthening investors’ confidence in the bond market and the development of the bond market and the capital market.

In a separate meeting, BSEC commissioner Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and officials from the BSEC’s corporate finance division were present.

Representatives from banks, merchant banks, and asset management companies also attended the meeting.

Shamsuddin emphasised the importance of investment for the country’s economic development and the establishment of a strong corporate bond market.

He also highlighted the potential of the global bond market for long-term financing and its significance for Bangladesh’s market.

He said that the development of the bond market should be aligned with the country’s economic goals.
