One more child with critical burn injuries died at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) this afternoon, raising the death toll to 30 in the fighter jet crash in Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara.
12-year old Mahatab succumbed to his burn injuries at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) around 1:50 pm today at the burn institute.
According to the updated information till 3:30pm today provided by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the death toll in the aircraft stood at 30 while 55 injured are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the capital.
Resident Surgeon of the NIBPS Shawon Bin Rahma confirmed the death saying that the child had 85 percent burn injuries.
Cousin of the deceased, Rakib Hossain said that Mahtab was a seventh grade student at Milestone School and College in Uttara.
Mahtab's father, Minhazur Rahman Bhuiyan, lives in the Debidwar Thana area of Cumilla district, he said.
With Mahtab’s death, 12 have so far died at the NIPBS.
One more critically injured in the air force jet crash at the Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara area was admitted to the (NIBPS) on Wednesday night.
Fourteen year old Mahtab was referred to the NIBPS from Uttara Adhunik Hospital Medical College Hospital.
He is now undergoing treatment at bed no. 7 of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of NIBPS with 85 percent burn injuries.
His condition was very critical, according to a brief message sent to the media this morning.
With the new one, so far 45 people, nine with critical burn injuries, are now undergoing treatment at the burn institute.
Of them, nine have been classified in the critical category, 13 in CBR (Complete Bed Rest), and 23 in the intermediate category.
The institute has been giving treatment to the burn injured in consultation with the medical team from Singapore General Hospital that arrived in the capital on Wednesday.
The government today formally published the names of 29 people who died in the jet crash alongside 57 injured people.
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate Director Lieutenant Colonel Sami Ud Dowla Chowdhury today said rumours were spreading on social media about the death toll in Monday's Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash on a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara here.
"Many people believe the rumours without understanding the real situation," he said in a text to the media on Wednesday.
A total of 22 bodies were handed over to their families after identification.
The bodies of six persons have been kept at the morgues of Combined Military Hospital, while body of one person is at the morgue of Lubana General Hospital and Cardiac Centre, said a handout of the PID on Wednesday.
DNA sample testing is underway to hand over the bodies to their families.
Of these seven persons, CID has identified five bodies.
